The reveal of Avi actually being Manish (and not Nikhil’s) son. Several plot points are also left unfinished. The ending is a harbinger of an interesting battle that will be waged in season two–Anamika versus her daughter and detective Trivedi, who will need to bring them both to justice.

And Anamika, who we see picking up a crowbar with determination and pounding away at the locked shutter in the final seconds of the show, indicates clearly that she is not giving up. Amara, who has so far come across as too sweet and–let’s face it–simple-minded to have had this kind of villainy in her, stands at the precipice of stardom that will come at the cost of her mother’s life.

The detective, who’s cracked the case but still has no idea of Anamika’s whereabouts, is intrigued further by the public announcement of Amara’s new film–especially at a time like this.

The final moments of the finale leave us at pivotal moments of the three women that this show is really about–Anamika Anand, Amara, and Detective Shobha Trivedi. ‘Stay mysterious, let them chase you,’ ‘Let them see you be vulnerable.’ ‘Let them watch you react in the wake of tragedy.’ And of course, most importantly, ‘Never let anyone get in the way of you, and your ambition.’ We see, in the final minutes of the season, Amara employing all the tools her mother told her she'd need to be a great actor. And then, with a savage flip of her hair, arrives at the premiere of her mother’s film and lets her father announce her first film ever–to an audience that’s gathered there for her mother. Locks her mother in and bribes the old painter to keep her in there–and possibly kill her. And not even Amara begging her and saying she loves him will stop her.Īnd so, Amara snaps. It is in conversation with her mother about the plan that Anamika reveals that the intention she has to wriggle out of this is to blame everything on Madhav, the crazed fan. But lo and behold, it is her daughter Amara that walks in–looking far better dressed than we’ve seen her all season.

When the shutter of Anamika's hideout opens, we expect her aunt/caretaker to walk in, who’s proven to be a confidant since her girlhood. And, you know, the lover she did most of this for has succumbed to the worst inner workings of his bipolar disorder and killed himself–after confessing to killing her.Īnd then comes the other twist–the one person who knew about her plan all along. All while her family and friends are terrified that she’s possibly lying dead in a ditch somewhere. She stages an escape, bloodshed, a phone call to her daughter that’s interrupted by a struggle with the painter–and it all looks very real (the show cheats a little, by making her look more bedraggled than she should’ve if she had done this to herself). She enlists an old, out-of-work painter to ‘kidnap’ her and look after her, hiding her in a shanty on Nikhil’s property–because a side salad of framing the husband never hurts. And so, an elaborate plan begins to stage her disappearance. But Anamika Anand, who at this point has decided to leave the awful husband and promote Manish from part-time lover to full-time, thinks not.
